NUF EMPOWERS FEMALE STREET CLEANERS AT GALADIMAWA UNDER-BRIDGE

On April 5th, 2024, the Nikki Udezue Foundation (NUF) extended its outreach efforts to support one of the most overlooked and underappreciated groups in urban communities—female street cleaners. The outreach took place at the popular Galadimawa Under-Bridge, a busy interchange in Abuja, where dozens of women work daily in harsh conditions to keep the environment clean.

Recognizing the economic hardships faced by these women, many of whom earn less than ₦20,000 monthly, NUF organized the outreach to provide relief in the form of food items, financial support, and heartfelt encouragement. The initiative aligns with NUF’s mission to uplift marginalized groups, especially women and widows, through direct intervention and empowerment programs.

The outreach began with the NUF team engaging with the cleaners, many of whom were initially skeptical about the event. However, once the purpose of the visit became clear, the mood quickly shifted to excitement and appreciation. Bags of food items and cash gifts were distributed, prompting emotional responses from the recipients.

One of the beneficiaries, Appy Sunday, shared her experience: “Yesterday, I didn’t come to work because there was no food for my children. I never expected anything today. This gift came as a miracle.” Another recipient, Grace Emmanuel, added, “None of us saw this coming. This is beyond our expectations. May God bless the NUF team.”

The outreach highlighted the importance of recognizing and appreciating the contributions of low-income women who continue to keep society functioning in difficult circumstances. Through this intervention, NUF not only provided short-term relief but also restored hope and dignity to these women.

Over the years, NUF has consistently delivered empowerment projects to underserved communities across Abuja and Nigeria at large. The foundation remains open to partnerships with government agencies, private corporations, and development organizations to expand its reach and impact.

This initiative stands as a reminder that even small acts of kindness can create ripple effects of hope, and that every hardworking woman deserves support, respect, and recognition.
