NUF Launches “Pad a Girl Child” Outreach to Mark Founder’s Day 2025

Since the early days of the foundation, Mrs. Udezue has made her birthday a day of service. She has never relented in turning it into an opportunity to extend a helping hand to those who need it.

The event opened with a welcome from the school representative, Mr. Raymond Joseph. He thanked the foundation for choosing the school for this year’s outreach. Mrs. Udezue then spoke to the students. She shared how meaningful it was to celebrate by giving back and stressed the importance of health, confidence, and dignity for every young person. She encouraged the students to stay informed and support one another.

Girls’ Session, Pad a Girl Workshop

Facilitator: Nurse Deborah Mbah

Girls took part in a focused workshop on menstrual hygiene and reproductive health.
The session covered:
• Safe menstrual hygiene practices
• Correct use and disposal of sanitary pads
• Myths that affect girls’ confidence
• Emotional well-being during adolescence

All female students received sanitary pads.

Boys’ Session, Hygiene Awareness Program

Facilitator: Nurse Ibegbulem Mathew

Boys joined a session on personal hygiene and body care.
The session covered:
• Daily hygiene routines
• Changes during puberty
• Self-respect and healthy habits
• Cleanliness and personal grooming

Male students received hygiene kits containing toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorants, soaps, and shaving sticks.

Outcomes

• Girls gained better understanding of menstrual hygiene and reproductive health.
• Many reported improved confidence.
• Boys showed strong interest in discussions on hygiene and growing up.
• Students asked questions freely, which helped the facilitators connect with them.
• Both groups requested more health education sessions in the future.

Closing

The Pad a Girl Child initiative achieved its aim of promoting health and awareness among adolescents. The program created a safe and open learning environment for both boys and girls. It also reinforced the foundation’s ongoing commitment to supporting young people and keeping Founder’s Day a tradition built on care and community impact.
