On May 24th, 2023, the Nikki Udezue Foundation (NUF) partnered with Paraclete Hope Foundation for the third edition of the Spelling Bee Competition held in Abuja. The event brought together over 25 schools as part of Paraclete’s ongoing “Send a Child to School” campaign, aimed at building confidence and fluency in school-aged children.
In her remarks, Mrs. Felicia Sams, Coordinator of Paraclete Hope Foundation, emphasized that the goal of the competition is to overcome stage fright, encourage bold public speaking, and enhance children's ability to express themselves confidently.
“Our aim is to knock out stage fright among children and encourage them to speak out, guided and fluently,” — Mrs. Felicia Sams
Thanks to the support of key partners — including Nikki Udezue Foundation, Helpline Foundation, and Voice of Help International — this year’s competition awarded impressive prizes: ₦50,000 for 1st place, ₦20,000 for 2nd, ₦10,000 for 3rd, along with several consolation prizes.
Mrs. Nkiruka Udezue, President of the Nikki Udezue Foundation, expressed her excitement at being part of an initiative that uplifts underprivileged children and promotes inclusive education in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“It was truly inspiring to watch children from orphanages, private schools, and diverse backgrounds compete as equals. Everyone is a winner here — this is how we reduce inequality and promote shared growth.” — Mrs. Nkiruka Udezue
Past editions of the competition have seen winners go on to excel in other national contests, a testament to the program’s positive impact. Additionally, Paraclete Foundation has successfully enrolled 67 children in school through its broader campaign.
The event concluded with heartfelt speeches and a moving testimony from Victor, a first-time contestant from Bright Steps School, who emerged as the overall winner.
“I didn’t expect to win. I prayed and handed it over to God. I’m so proud to make my school and parents proud,” — Victor, First Place Winner
The Nikki Udezue Foundation remains committed to supporting educational and empowerment programs that unlock the potential of every child.
