PAST INTERVENTIONS
In order to realize our vision, we provide humanitarian aid to communities and individuals and strengthen their capacity for sustainable development, resilient livelihoods and positive change. The following are some our recent initiatives implemented through direct implementation and by our network of volunteers:
• Haven Orphanage Provision Edge (HOPE) Quarterly Outreach (December 2020)
- The HOPE outreach is a quarterly initiative to provide relief materials to orphanage homes. Each quarter, NUF identifies, through needs assessments, forms of support that can be rendered to orphanage homes. In the past, this has varied widely, including food items, educational materials, toys, and clothing items.
The HOPE outreach for Quarter 4 of 2020 was conducted on the 25th of December 2020 at the City of Refuge Orphanage, Durumi, Abuja. The outreach provided an opportunity to stock the home with provisions and gift items to ensure that the children have a fun-filled Christmas celebration.
• Founders Day 2021- In commemoration of the birth of the founder of NUF (5th November), the 2021 edition of the Founders Day was a medical support outreach conducted at Nyanya General Hospital. The outreach was conducted on the 6th of November 2021, with a visit to the facility and the provision of financial aid to indigent patients who were found in the facility. 10 patients were supported. The support provided included the purchase of drugs, payment for surgeries and admission fees. Also the team conducted psychosocial support and counselling sessions for patients who had been traumatized by the brunt of illnesses and the inability to afford the cost of healthcare.
Widows Smile 1.0 and 1.1 - Nikki Udezue Foundation, as part of it's 2022 projects embarked on the the Widows Smile Project outreach, on the 1st of January, 2022. Widows within the Nanya Maraba axis had smiles all over their faces after receiving huge packages from the NUF team.
10 widows got Twenty Five Thousand Naira each and also provisions worth Twenty Thousand naira. In addition a One Thousand Naira transport allowance and a certificate of participation. Three widows who were not part of the original list showed up, and were given Ten Thousand Naira each, a bag of rice and kitchen condiments and transport allowance.
A facilitator took them on a course "ESCAPE WAYS FROM POVERTY THROUGH PETTY TRADE". It was a One hour, Thirty Minuites class, and was very refreshing.
It became even more emotional as one widow had her birthday same day, which had us sing and dance with her. Especially when it was known that she was the youngest widow and all experiences so fresh in her memory.
Future Invest 1.0 - The Nikki Udezue Foundation FUTURE INVEST 2022 Project tooke place on the 21st and 22nd of September, 2022.
PROJECT SUMMARY:
This intervention seeks to address cases of out of school children that are orphans and/or vulnerable. Return children who dropped out of school due to acute poverty, death of one or both parents, or one form of disability.
1. Identify and support highly vulnerable 20 OVC to return to school and comfortably attend school through the provision of learning and other school materials.
EXPECTED OUTCOME:
1. Successfully provide financial and material support to 20 orphan and vulnerable children so they can go through primary school education starting from the year 2022.
2. Provide learning and school materials such as payment of school fees, provision of school uniforms, desk, stockings, textbooks, exercise books, mathematical sets, school bags, school sandals, sanitary kits for girls, water bottle and lunch box for 20 orphan and vulnerable children .
PROJECT ACTIVITIES:
- Community entry and advocacy
- Baseline survey
- Validation of Baseline report (Selection of OVC’s needing support)
- Townhall meeting to distribute learning and school materials to 20 selected OVC
- Monthly monitoring and evaluation to determine learners academic progress and level of utilization of distributed resources.
A baseline survey conducted to public schools within this community revealed that 50 percent of the children from the community are disadvantaged. 22.7 percent of these number are Orphans while 27.3 are vulnerable due to acute poverty and other forms of disability, putting the education of the children under jeopardy.
The initiative aims to successfully provide financial and material support to 20 orphan and vulnerable children so they can go through primary school education starting from the year 2022.
